About Sandra’s Counselling and Psychotherapy
“No-one experiences your life as you do; yours is a totally unique story of experiences and feelings” John O’Donoghue
I have been in the caring profession since 1998 when I worked with Childline. I am an experienced Psychotherapist with is a member of the I.A.C.P accrediting body. I am passionate about creating a safe, confidential, non-judgemental, and compassionate space to support you to explore your unique needs in therapy.
I work from a core belief that our minds and bodies are deeply connected. The impact of stress on the physical body is an important component to treating trauma, grief, anxiety, depression and more. To achieve this, I like to utilise Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal Theory, Attachment Theory, and Hakomi approach.
Although I utilise this integrative approach so as to best tailor the sessions to meet each persons need, I am an I.F.S practitioner and use this as the foundation of much of the work. This approach is an evidenced model of working assists us in understanding the different parts within ourselves.
Have you ever felt like part of you wants one thing and another part isn’t sure?
I.F.S helps us understand and work with these inner parts. Having many or conflicting feelings doesn’t mean something is wrong, there are no bad parts of us, it just means that different parts of us are trying to help in their own ways. I.F.S is a compassionate, non-judgemental and non-pathologizing approach to understanding and healing. It is particularly helpful for trauma and unburdening wounded parts, for managing anxiety and depression, for addressing shame and self-criticism, for identity and self-discovery, for emotional regulation and building resilience. This therapy will support you to gain deeper awareness, develop a kinder relationship with yourself and learn new ways to respond to difficulties.
In my practice as a I.F.S Counsellor and Psychotherapist, it is of central importance to me that I provide a safe space in which you can understand and befriend yourself. Fostering an internal space of increased harmony and happiness.
Throughout the collaborative therapy relationship, I can offer you a confidential and safe space to explore your unique challenges at a pace that suits you
Each individual has their own unique experiences that bring them to counselling, from what has happened, or what is happening that is causing them unnecessary distress.
